The Web is Dead
The future of the web is a frequent topic of conversation here at NRC Headquarters. How our clients can use the Web’s best attributes to promote their business or services is our business. So, when a couple of influential players and a writer from a widely read magazine debate this topic, we’re all ears. We really like the provocative title too! But don’t be alarmed, it may be too soon to pronounce the death of the web.
Yes, the title is a bit over the top, but the debate at Wired.com is well reasoned and salient to recent news regarding Net Neutrality and an agreement between two giants in the industry: Google and Verizon. The participants in this debate are Tim O’Reilly from O’Reilly Media, John Battelle from Federated Media and Chris Anderson from Wired Magazine. The article is long-ish, but well worth the time to read.
As the debate rages around open and closed content models and the rising app economy, Battelle has this to say:
If large media and telecommunication companies decide to close their offerings to the web, I am convinced the web will route around it. There’s simply too many people, with too much time on their hands, for it to be otherwise.
So read the article here and let us know what you think.
